Kia ora and welcome to our week 5 newsletter.  We are half way through term 2 and the children have been working hard. I can't wait to see what the next half of term will bring.

Just a few reminders of what is happening this coming weekend.
Firstly tomorrow Friday 31st May is a Teacher Only Day for staff professional development. This means that the school is closed for instruction. No children on site. The following Monday 3rd of June is King's Birthday and the school is closed for the public holiday. The students will come back to school on Tuesday 4th of June.

Our other exciting news is that this Sunday at St Pius X church is the first Holy Communion and Confirmation for our Catechumen. They have been working hard over a series of weeks learning about the Sacraments of initiation and we welcome them more fully into the Church. I ask that you pray for them on their journey.

First Holy Communion and Confirmation
This Sunday in the Church of St Pius X is the celebration of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. First Holy Communion and Confirmation are both Sacraments of initiation into the Church. 

The Sacrament of Confirmation graces one with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation establishes the person as fully-fledged members of the faith. This Sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. During Baptism, parents and godparents make promises to believe in God and the Church, on behalf of the child. At Confirmation, these promises are renewed by the person speaking for themselves. 

A child’s first Holy Communion is when the child continues their initiation into the church and receives the body of Jesus in the form of bread and wine at Mass for the first time. It is a time to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus and give a deeper appreciation of Mass and the church as a community.
Holy Communion is the Sacrament which binds us together as God’s family, providing strength and spiritual nourishment for our journey in faith together.

We pray for those receiving these Sacraments this Sunday. 

 

Week 2: v Ngahinapouri Red - a really tough game losing 11-0 with lots of learning for our team. Player of the day: Anros.

Week 3: v Maeroa Cobras - 2 all draw - a much more even game for the team with some great defense. Player of the day: Hannah N

Week 4: v Rotokauri Quicksticks unfortunately we lost 5-2 - with some great defensive plays and lots of learning about passing to our team mates. Player of the day: Molly

REMINDER: If your child is not coming to school because of sickness etc, PLEASE let the Office know: You can fill in an absence form on our website, download the Skool Loop App or phone the absence line on 07 8436554. We are aware that some families are sending absence messages to the teacher via SeeSaw. The Office does not see these messages. Our teaching staff don't have time in the mornings to pass on these messages. Consequently, you may receive a text from the office advising that your child is absent.
