Principal's Message
Miss Erin Clayton

It has been lovely to see some rain this week, helping the gardens and farmers and bringing back some much needed green to the Waikato. The children have been able to get out and move between showers. We are so thankful that it held off for our two weeks of swimming so everyone was able to walk comfortably and safely to and from the pool.
It also comes as a timely reminder, that you may only come down the drive if you have permission from the office. Most students are able to walk safely up or down the drive with a raincoat or umbrella whatever the weather and more cars coming down makes it less safe for everyone to access the school.
Don't forget to return your raffle tickets and money to the office, even if you have only sold a couple! This raffle is drawn next Friday - 28th March. BE IN TO WIN!!! All funds raised helps with our Camps and Education outside the class at the end of the year.
St Patrick's Day Spot Prizes
Each class could give out one best spot prize for Mufti on Monday. Here are the photo's of the winners. Later in the newsletter are more photo's from the day.

Classroom concerns and complaints procedure
If you have a concern about something at school the first person to contact is your child's teacher. They will be the most informed person or the person able to make the difference. Make an appointment to discuss your concern in person, sometimes it can't be that day but we will always try our best to meet with you and take the time to understand what is going on.
If you feel the concern is more serious please make an appointment to see the Principal. You can do this by contacting the office to organise a time. From that initial discussion everyone will work together to resolve the issue.

We have a detailed procedure for concerns and complaints here at St Pius X available at the office if you would like to see it and understand the formal process.
It is our hope that St Pius X is a school with open, honest communication. It is far better to talk a problem through in the early stages rather than risk it becoming a major issue.

Lost Property
St Pius X does not have an official lost Property collection. Our procedure is that all items uniform, lunchboxes, drink bottles etc must be clearly named so they can be returned to the rightful owner as soon as possible. We have a small selection of items that could not be returned, at the office. These items are cleaned out and donated at the end of each term. Please make sure that your child knows to put items back in their bag and that all labels are clear and readable.

Attendance
One of the objectives of the Ministry of Education is to reach the goal of 90% attendance for every school. For this they have created STAR- the Stepped Attendance Response. Regular attendance at school is important for your child's success and there is a clear connection between going to school regularly and doing well in the classroom. Making sure students attend and engage in learning is a shared responsibility. As a parent you are responsible for making sure your child attends school every day. We acknowledge that there are genuine reasons students may occasionally be absent. However without regular attendance your child will struggle to make progress. If your child is absent regularly, or for extended periods, we will reach out to discuss the situation. We are committed to supporting your child to attend school. If you are having difficulty getting your child to school, you can ask for support by:
