Tena Koutou Katoa Kia ora and welcome to our week 6 newsletter. We have moved into winter and the cooler mornings can certainly be felt. Make sure that your child has their jersey or jacket everyday to keep warm.
Building Connection with St John's This term we have been privileged to have some of the St John's high school learners coming and sharing a range of Kapa Haka skills and traditional Maori games with our children. Next week (week 7) a small group of our learners will visit St John's with other Catholic primary schools in Hamilton and share what they have learned with one another as well as a small Mihi Whakatau. It has been an amazing opportunity and the learning will extend next term to include a visit to a Marae for some of our learners to experience tikanaga. More information to come.
Note from Sacred Heart
This is the final appeal to our Catholic primary schools regarding enrolment applications. We have received a substantial number of applications from preference students attending other schools. Although our priority is to accommodate preference students from our Catholic primary schools, please be advised that any enrolment applications submitted after July 5 will not be given priority. I am particularly concerned about this, as it caused a few challenges last year. There are still several students who are waiting for a Year 9 space and have had to enrol in other schools in the meantime. I don't want this to happen to anyone this year.
Last Sunday was the Feast of Corpus Christi and the celebration of the First Holy Communion and Confirmation at the St Pius X parish. Bishop came to celebrate with us and it was very special to be able to participate in these rites of initiation for our learners. Thank you once more to all those who helped in this team effort.

We are aware that some families are sending absence messages to the teacher via SeeSaw. The Office does not see these messages. Our teaching staff don't have time in the mornings to pass on these messages. Consequently, you may receive a text from the office advising that your child is absent.
The NZTD (travellerdeclaration.govt.nz) is an online system that travellers can use to complete a declaration before they travel into New Zealand. The new digital NZTD was launched in August 2023 and not many people know they can now do it online – replacing the paper card you used to fill out on the plane.
